Konark: A day after the video clip featuring Nimapara police station inspector-in-charge Mrutyunjay Swain thrashing an elderly woman went viral on social media, the officer concerned was transferred to Puri district police headquarters on Thursday.
Swain will discharge duty at the police headquarters till completion of investigation into the case.
On the other hand, an SDPO will be in charge of Nimapara police station in place of Swain.
The accused officer had allegedly beaten up a 74-year-old woman for repeatedly visiting police station. The woman has sustained injuries on her leg.
Though the incident took place on May 7, the matter came to the fore after a video clip featuring the same went viral on Tuesday.
According to information, the woman, identified as Basanti Palata of Dhirapur Dalei Sahi, had gone to the police station after being called up by the IIC concerned basing on a complaint lodged by her daughter-in-law Rita, alleging torture by in-laws.
The police officer, however, had refuted the allegations levelled against him.
