Bhadrak: In a tragic incident, two friends drowned in a pond while one was going to rescue the other in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Kamal Lochan Mallick and Mukesh Giri of Shyampur village under Dhamnagar Notified Area Council (NAC). Both were students of Class X.
According to sources, three friends including Kamal and Mukesh had gone to take bath in the pond near a temple in the village in the afternoon. While Kamal first went into the pond, the other two were standing on the banks.
Meanwhile, Kamal drifted to deep water and started drowning. On seeing this, Mukesh jumped into the pond to rescue him. But he failed in his effort and both of them drowned. Alarmed by their drowning, the third friend rushed to the village for help.
The villagers brought Kamal and Mukesh out of pond and rushed them to the community health centre (CHC) at Dhamnagar. But the doctors of the hospital declared both of them brought dead.
