Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday directed the police administration to maintain strict surveillance on antisocial and disruptive elements across Odisha.
During a a high-level review meeting to take stock of the low and order situation in the wake of the recent violence in Cuttack and murder of a senior lawyer in Berhampur, the CM cautioned against attempts by motivated groups to tarnish Odisha’s image as a peaceful state. “These forces must be dealt with a firm hand,” he said.
Majhi warned the top cops against any complacency in Cuttack, where normalcy has largely returned with curfew lifted and internet restored after group clashes. “Security force deployment as well as patrolling in sensitive areas of Cuttack city should continue,” he said, while advising police to stay alert and maintain community outreach to preserve harmony.
Expressing grief over the killing of senior advocate Pitabas Panda, the CM directed police to nab the culprits quickly and ensure exemplary punishment.
Among others, CM’s advisor Prakash Mishra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu, Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania, CM’s Principal Secretary Saswat Mishra and senior police officers were present at the meeting.
