New Delhi: An international job racket is at work to lure and entrap skilled Indian youngsters trained in Information & Technology (IT).

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday issued an advisory alerting Indians of a fake international recruitment scam targeting IT-skilled youth from the country and advising job aspirants to verify every detail of the employer through concerned Missions before accepting any offer.

“Instances of fake job rackets offering lucrative jobs to entice Indian youths for the posts of Digital Sales and Marketing Executives in Thailand by dubious IT firms involved in call-centre scams and crypto-currency fraud have come to our notice recently by our Missions in Bangkok and Myanmar,” MEA said in a statement.

Urging job seekers to remain vigilant of rackets, MEA informed that dozens of Indians were reportedly taken across the border illegally, mostly into Myanmar, and held captive to work under harsh conditions.

“Indian nationals are advised not to get entrapped in such fake job offers being floated through social media platforms or other sources. Indian nationals are advised to check and verify credentials of foreign employers through concerned Missions abroad, and antecedents of recruiting agents as well as any company before taking up any job offer,” the Ministry said.

The main target of such fake groups are skilled professionals from IT and allied sectors. Their modus operandi is by advertising ‘lucrative’ jobs in Thailand through social media and agents based in the UAE and India.

A day earlier, MEA had issued another advisory for Indian nationals in Canada following a sharp rise in hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities in the North American country.
