Techie’s Suicide: Wife Accused Him Of Treating ‘Marital Relationship Like A Beast’ In Her 2022 Plaint

Bengaluru: Amid the ongoing controversy over Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash’s suicide, allegedly due to harassment by his wife, Nikita Singhania, a 2022 complaint filed by the latter has come to the fore. According to the complaint, Nikita had alleged that Atul would transfer all of her salary from her account to his account by threatening her and also assaulted her after consuming alcohol. In her complaint, as reported by PTI, Nikita alleged that Atul had started ‘treating the husband-wife relationship like a beast.’

Nikita Singhania had first lodged a dowry harassment FIR against Atul, his brother and parents in 2022, reported the Mint. This complaint was reportedly filed three years after the couple’s marriage. Nikita had mentioned in the complaint that she had married Subhash on April 26, 2019. She had alleged that her husband and in-laws were unhappy with the wedding gifts from her parents. They allegedly demanded an additional Rs10 lakh from Nikita’s parents, the complaint claimed. However, Atul had declined such allegations in his 24-page suicide note.

Nikita tried to get divorce from Atul for past two years

“They started torturing me physically and mentally for dowry. When I told my parents about the harassment and dowry, my parents explained to me that everything will be fine, listen and keep living with it. But no improvement of any kind came in my husband and in-laws,” Nikita’s complaint cited, reported PTI. According to Nikita’s relatives, she had been trying to get a divorce from Atul for the past two years. She had reportedly filed three or four cases in the court in her native Jaunpur district.

Nikita’s mother, brother left their home around midnight

The mother-in-law and brother-in-law of Atul Subhash left their residence at midnight on Wednesday in Khoa Mandi locality in Jaunpur. Purported videos of Atul’s mother-in-law walking on the road around midnight had gone viral on social media. The duo was later seen leaving on a motorbike and their whereabouts were reportedly not known.

Atul, a 34-year-old techie who was found hanging in his Bengaluru home on Monday, blamed his wife, her family and even a judge for forcing him to take the extreme step in a detailed 24-page suicide note.

The purported suicide note, alleging  explicit instigation for suicide, harassment, extortion, and corruption, had four handwritten pages, while the other 20 pages were typed out. It also mentioned multiple police complaints filed against him by his wife and others.
