Koraput: Vigilance sleuths on Saturday detained an assistant audit officer of SC/ ST development department at Jeypore in Koraput district after unaccounted cash of Rs 7.29 lakh was seized from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Artabandhu Rout of Padana village under Niali police limits in Cuttack district.
According to the sources, Rout was intercepted by vigilance sleuths at Jeypore while he was on his way back after conducting an audit of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Malkangari.
He was, however, unable to explain the source of the cash recovered from his possession.
His native house under Niali police limits is being searched and further investigation is on, the sources added.
