Yangon: Deposed Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi was unperturbed after being transferred from house arrest to prison, saying she would “calmly” face her new solitary confinement.
Suu Kyi, who was ousted in a coup last year, had been kept at an undisclosed location in the country’s capital Naypyidaw, accompanied by several domestic staff and her dog, AFP reported.

The only time that the 77-year-old Nobel laureate was allowed to leave the premises was to attend hearings for the numerous trials in a junta court.
On Wednesday, she was transferred from house arrest to “solitary confinement in prison”,
According to junta spokesman Zaw Min Tun, Suu Kyi’s trial hearings will henceforth take place in a courtroom within the prison compound.
The military government has detained thousands of pro-democracy protesters since seizing power, with many facing secret trials.
Suu Kyi’s lawyers have been banned from speaking to the media, journalists barred from her trial and foreign diplomats’ requests to meet her turned down.
