Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for attempting to rape a woman on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, a woman from Patkura area in Kendrapada district was travelling to Bhubaneswar to appear in an examination. After reaching Cuttack, she boarded an auto-rickshaw which had two female passengers. After those two women got down at Phulanakhara, the auto driver took the exam hall-bound woman took her on a different route and tried to rape her in a forest area near Gobindapur, under Godisahi Outpost limits.
As the woman shouted for help, two youths who were grazing cows nearby, rushed to the spot and overpowered the auto driver. Once they informed the police, a team from Godisahi Outpost arrived at the spot and handed the driver to Barang Police.
He was arrested after the woman lodged a complaint.
