Rayagada: An auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Balaram Khara (35) of Garidi village under Bandhugaon block of Koraput district. He was staying in a rented house with his family at Doraguda ARI Colony in Rayagada district and earned his livelihood by driving an auto-rickshaw.
According to police sources, while Balaram was driving his auto-rickshaw from Singaram to Tikiri on Sunday afternoon, some miscreants reportedly attacked him with sharp weapons at Kansariguda under Tikiri police station in Rayagada district.
They slit his throat and left him in a pool of blood. Some passers-by spotted him and informed the police.
A team from Tikiri police station including SDPO Rashmi Ranjan Senapati along with a scientific team went to the spot. They have registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem, the sources said.
The cause of murder has not been ascertained while the police have launched a manhunt to trace the assailants.
