Bhubaneswar: The Smart City Online Auto Association on Wednesday announced that its members will go on a strike on Thursday protesting alleged humiliation by the agitating bus drivers.
Sources said over 10,000 auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers will remain off road to participate in the strike.
Auto-rickshaw drivers in the city did not participate in the drivers’ association strike today and some of them were allegedly humiliated by the bus drivers.
The agitating drivers allegedly made them hold placards with derogatory statements written on them. The auto-rickshaw drivers were also garlanded and insulted.
Around five lakh drivers across Odisha launched an indefinite strike today to press for several demands that include social security including pension, insurance, and death benefits.
The protesters were found staging demonstrations in different parts of the state including Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. They were seen picketing on the National Highways and shouting slogans in support of their demands.
