Bhubaneswar: Sabas Biju, a film written and directed by Santosh Panda on child leadership and child rights has brought glory to Odisha by being selected, screened and appreciated at the National Children’s Film Festival, Rajasthan and International Children’s Film Festival, Hyderabad.
The film was selected among entries from 109 countries.
The movie portrays a character Biju, an eleven-year old schoolboy, who lives with his widowed mother in a small village and supports his family by vending milk. He fights against social injustice and the cause of children.
At school, Biju proves that action speaks louder than words. He gets to know from his mother that his father named him after the great son of the soil Biju Patnaik. Biju seeks to know more about Biju Patnaik and his mother gets him a book on the life and works of the leader.
Biju starts adoring the visionary leader. When he learns that many parents send their children to other states to do odd jobs to add to their family income, Biju learns about laws against child abuse and makes up his mind to bring the children back.
In the parents’ meeting his words of conviction make the parents realise their mistake. Biju spreads a net to catch the real culprit and is successful. His crowning glory is being nominated as an International Child Ambassador.
The movie has a strong social message and has bagged several awards.
This nationally and internationally acclaimed film ‘Sabas Biju’ will be screened on August 5 at Jayadev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. Child artistes of the movie will be felicitated on the occasion.
