Ayodhya Dispute: Supreme Court Begins Daily Hearing

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday began day-to-day hearing of the politically-sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case after the failure of efforts to reach an amicable settlement through mediation.

“Let us begin the hearing,” said a five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, news agency PTI reported. The bench also comprises Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and SA Nazeer.

Earlier on August 2, the bench had taken note of a report by the three-member mediation panel, headed by former apex court judge FMI Kalifulla, that the four-month-long mediation proceedings did not result in any final settlement.
