Mumbai: Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s upcoming film ‘Udta Teer’ has hit a roadblock in Nepal, with authorities reportedly refusing permission for its public screening ahead of its October 23 theatrical release.
Nepal’s Central Film Censor Board reportedly denied clearance after reviewing the film and finding that it violated a provision of the country’s cinema law.
However, the authorities have yet to publicly specify the exact grounds for the decision.
According to India Today, Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology formally conveyed the decision to the film’s local distributor, National Cine Group Nepal Pvt. Ltd., through an official letter.
The decision was reportedly taken under Nepal’s National Cinema (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, following the censor board’s assessment that the film fell under a category of content prohibited by the legislation.
While officials have not publicly detailed their objections to the film’s storyline, ‘Udta Teer’ reportedly revolves around an espionage mission involving India and Pakistan.
The film follows a Pakistani spy who enters India but loses his memory in an accident.
He eventually comes to believe that he is an Indian counterterrorism officer, setting the stage for the film’s central premise.
The restriction applies to screenings in Nepal, while the film’s planned theatrical release in India remains scheduled for October 23, 2026.
The film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles, alongside Mukul Dev, Ram Kapoor, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Gulshan Grover, Suhail Nayyar, Rahul Bose and Supriya Pilgaonkar.
Written and directed by Akash A. Kaushik, Udta Teer is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain under the banners of Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.
The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on October 23, 2026.
