Cuttack: Dr Bhaskar Chandra Patra assumed charge as Director, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute (NRRI) in Cuttack on September 1. He succeeds Dr Padmini Swain, who retired on August 31.
Dr Patra is an alumnus of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, from where he obtained his Masters (Botany) and PhD (Plant Taxonomy) in 1982 and 1989, respectively. He was selected in the All India Agricultural Research Service (ARS) examination in 1986 and joined as a scientist at ICAR-NRRI in 1990. Subsequently, he was promoted as senior scientist in 1999 and principal scientist in 2007.
Since 2019, he was holding the post of Head of Crop Improvement Division, ICAR-NRRI.
