New Delhi: The main accused in the killing of Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique was finally arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich on Sunday.
Shiv Kumar had been on the run since the NCP leader and former minister Siddique was gunned down on October 12 outside his son MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra East.
A joint operation by Mumbai Police’s crime branch and Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) managed to get to Shiv and four others as they were trying to flee to Nepal.
Shiv used a 9.9 mm pistol to fire six rounds at Siddique.
Shiv apart, the others were nabbed for giving Shiv shelter and helping him plan an escape to Nepal.
During interrogation, Shiv admitted to being associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which had claimed responsibility for Siddique’s murder a day after he was shot dead.
Shiv admitted that Siddique was eliminated on the instructions of Lawrence’s brother Anmol Bishnoi.
Shiv also told police that his contact with Anmol was facilitated by Shubham Lonkar, who is believed to be a close aide of Lawrence.
