Mumbai: Three-time national award-winning veteran actress Surekha Sikri passed away following a cardiac arrest on Friday morning. She was 75.
“She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram,” her agent Vivek Sidhwani said.
She had suffered a brain stroke in September 2020 and was keeping unwell for the last several months.
Sikri was last seen in Netflix’s anthology ‘Ghost Stories’ (2020), in a story directed by Zoya Akhtar, which starred Janhvi Kapoor. She had also earned accolades for her performance in Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer ‘Badhaai Ho’ and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2018.
An actress, who made her debut in 1978 with the film ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’, she had earlier won the National award in the same category for ‘Tamas’ (1988), and ‘Mammo’ (1995).
Her other important performances include ‘Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro’, ‘Zubeidaa’, and daily soap ‘Balika Vadhu’.
