Navi Mumbai: Jagannath Temple at Sector 5 in Kharghar celebrated Bahuda Yatra of Lord Jagannath and siblings on Monday.
After the rituals at Adap Mandap at Gundicha Temple at Harihar Peetha, the deities were taken in Pahandi, a ceremonial procession to chariot stationed in front of the temple. President and Trustee of the managing body of the temple, Maharashtra Odia Welfare Association (MOWA), Bhagwan Panda performed the traditional Chhera Pahanra on the chariot around 2 pm. The return journey of the Lords began around 4 pm with pulling of the chariot amid ‘kirtan’ and singing of ‘bhajans’ by the devotees and servitors. The air reverberated with chanting of hymns, Hari Bol, Jai Jagannath and sound of ghanta, mardala, karatala, jhanja and mrudanga.
After the return journey to the main temple, the Lords remained atop the chariot for public darshan.
According to temple sources, the deities will remain on the Chariot for next two days. On July 17, the rituals of adorning the deities in golden attire and offering of Adhara Pana will be performed on the chariot. The idols will then be taken to the temple in ‘Dhadi Pahandi’ around late night and will be placed in the sanctum sanctorum.
