Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said the under-construction major irrigation project on Baitarani river in Keonjhar district would be completed by June next year.
Speaking at the diamond jubilee celebration of Mahatab High School at Champua in the district, the chief minister said the government was implementing several welfare projects for development of Keonjhar which has remained under-developed despite having rich natural resources.
Since the district reports high number of accidents, a trauma care centre would be set up in the medical college and hospital. Besides, the government has constituted a task force on formation of North Odisha Development Council to ensure fast economic progress of the region including the district.
Stating that the education had been neglected during previous government, Majhi said his government has detected the loopholes and was taking steps to solve the issues. “After formation of our government, as many as 16,009 primary school teachers have been appointed to strengthen the education at the foundation level,”” he said.
Congratulating the school faculty and students for celebrating its diamond jubilee, he said it was a rare honour for the school as the state is celebrating 125th birth anniversary of the great leader Harekrushna Mahatab.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond also spoke on the occasion. Among others, Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud, Telkoi MLA Fakir Mohan Nayak, Patana MLA Akhil Chandra Nayak, educationist Satyabrat Panda and headmaster of the school Prakash Sahu were present at the function.
