Puri: The Sub-Inspector of Balanga police station in Puri district was suspended for dereliction of duty on Wednesday in connection with the blast at the Malkhana’ of the PS.
Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh issued the suspension order to SI Tapoi Nayak, was in charge of ‘malkhana’ of the police station, where explosives were stored after raids.
The incident took place on Monday midnight. The intensity of the blast was so severe that a portion of the roof of the police station was blown away while all assets including all files and electronic equipment were completely damaged. However, no one was injured. Saroj Behera, a sentry, who was on night duty, had a narrow escape as he ran away from the police station after hearing the blast.

Inspector General of Police Narasingha Bhol Tuesday visited the blast site to study the extent of damage even as a scientific team is engaged in the investigation.
