Balangir Boils At 41.7°C As Heat Wave Intensifies In Interior Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Despite a marginal fall in temperature in most parts of the coastal districts, the heat wave intensified further in the interior districts on Saturday with Balangir being the hottest place at 41.7 degrees Celsius.

Apart from Balangir, the mercury soared to 40 degrees and above in nine places in Angul (41.3), Jharsuguda (40.2), Talcher (40.2), Bhawanipatna (40.5), Titlagarh (41.5), Malkangiri (40), Sonepur (40.6), Nayagarh (40) and Sonepur (41.6).

Meanwhile, thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty wind lashed at some places over the northern districts of Balasore and Baripada.

In Balasore, a coconut tree was charred due to lighting. However, there was no loss of life reported in these areas till reports last came in.

In Bhubaneswar, rainfall accompanied by thundershower and lightning and strong wind disrupted power at most places for more than one hour due to tripping at the OPTCL grid in Chandaka.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the following districts under the influence of a trough from a cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood, which now runs to the another cyclonic circulation over south Assam.

Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Sundergarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Gajapati and Koraput.

April 19
Thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapti, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj.

April 20
Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Dhenkanal and Cuttack.

April 21
Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak and Angul.

April 22
Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Kandhamal.
