Balangir: Hundreds of residents of eleven villages under two panchayats of Balangir district staged a road blockade at Jhankarpalli on Monday demanding the immediate removal of a liquor manufacturing unit in their locality.
Owing to the blockade, vehicular traffic on the busy road connecting Balangir and Patnagarh was disrupted for several hours.
The agitators, mostly women, alleged that the liquor manufacturing unit at Kutumbadola should be shut down at the earliest as domestic violence is increasing in houses due its existence in the locality.
“Men and youths consume liquor and assault their wives and family members and women do not feel safe in our area. We will no more tolerate functioning of this liquor unit here”, a woman said.
Adequate police personnel were deployed near the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
