Balasore: Tension prevailed in Balasore after death of a hotel owner in police custody on Saturday.
According to sources, vehicular traffic was disrupted as agitating locals blocked Remuna Golei Chhak.
The deceased, Ratikanta Das, was owner of a Balasore-based hotel. On August 7, Industrial Area Police had detained Ratikanta for his alleged involvement in illegal liquor trade.
Later, Ratikanta fell ill and police took him SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. But he died while undergoing treatment on Friday night.
The locals alleged that police were responsible for Ratikanta’s death.
Two platoons of police forces were deployed in the area to maintain law and order .
