Balendu Dwivedi’s ‘Madaripur Junction’ To Be Translated in Odia

Bhubaneswar: Hindi novelist Balendu Dwivedi’s first ever novel ‘Madaripur Junction’ published by New Delhi-based Vaani Prakashan, will be translated in Odia. Impressed with plot and story, Shankarlal Purohit will translate the book, which is scheduled to hit the market by May.

I am overwhelmed with the response of Odia people and their interest in good literature. Odisha has a very rich heritage and cultural, and my novel dwells upon the values of human life. The novel has become so popular that an Odisha-based ‘Mukti’ theatre group is also planning to stage the story in near future,” said Dwivedi, whose book was inaugurated by renowned writer Taslims Nasreen at Indore Literature Festival last year.

“While Madaripur Junction is an imaginary place, the novel speaks about the multiple facets of a human life in the backdrop of political scenario and religious caste system that existed in rural India”, said the author who has carried the revolutionary zeal from his native place Gorakhpur.

At a time when publishing books has turned a monetary affair in Odisha, Dwivedi feels lucky to get his novel approved by the prestigious publication of the country. “In comparison to other forms of literary work, writing a novel is time-consuming and requires a connection between the characters and incidents altogether”, he signs off.
