Bali Jatra 2022: Kites From European Countries & Japan To Fill Cuttack Skies For 3 Days

Cuttack: For the first time, people visiting Bali Jatra in Odisha’s Cuttack city will be treated to a laser show while the skies above Gadgadia Ghat on the banks of the Mahanadi will be filled with colourful kites from European countries and Japan for the next three days, starting Tuesday.

These will be part of many attractions at the largest open-air fair, which is being organised after two years of COVID lockdown. A dedicated spot has been identified on the banks for kite flying that will continue till Thursday, sources said.

Many professionals from a Kerala-based organisation will be flying the huge imported kites. “We have crafted several unique kites like snake boats, octopus, green dolphin, elephant garnishing, and banner kite. We will also fly kites from Germany and Europe here and these are different from the usual kites because no sticks have been attached to them,” TOI reported founder of Kite Life Foundation Rajesh Nair as saying.

Notably, the imported kites are in the range of 2 ft to 40 ft. Over 100 people will join the kite festival as a workshop will be conducted on the ground for making and flying the same.

It is pertinent to mention here that the tradition of kite flying was started to expose people to the sun during winter for the assimilation of Vitamin D on the skin.
