Balianta Murder: Cops Identify Victim’s Brother As Killer

Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police on Saturday identified the person who had murdered a youth in broad daylight at Atalagada in Balianta area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

On the basis of a CCTV footage, police said the accused, Mamun Routray, was the elder brother of the deceased, Pritam Routray, a resident of Sabara Sahi in Laxmisagar police station area.

According to police, Mamun had a long running dispute with Pritam and used to regularly threaten to kill him. On Friday, the duo had an heated altercation at Atalagada. An enraged Mamun suddenly hacked at his brother with a sword, killing him on the spot. The accused then threw his brother’s body inside an under-construction pit of a latrine near an apartment building. While some people witnessed the incident, none dared to resist the killer.

During investigation, Balianta police identified Mamun from a CCTV footage.

Police said efforts were on to arrest the killer, who has been absconding since the murder.
