Bhubaneswar: The accused sibling, Shrasta Routray alias Mamun, in the Balianta murder case surrendered before police here on Sunday, following which he was arrested.
The accused had allegedly hacked his younger brother, Pritam Routray, to death in broad daylight at Atalagada in Balianta area, on the outskirts of the city, on Friday.
A day later, Balianta police had identified Mamun from a CCTV footage.
The murder spot was about 20 km from Sabara Sahi under Laxmisagar police limits, where the duo resided.
According to police sources, Mamun had a long-running dispute with Pritam and used to regularly threaten to kill him. On Friday, the duo had an heated altercation at Atalagada. An enraged Mamun suddenly hacked his brother to death. The accused then threw the body inside an under-construction pit of a latrine near an apartment building. While some people witnessed the incident, none dared to resist the killer, as he walked away with the murder weapon in his hand with a cloth warped around it.
The dispute was over sharing the money they got after selling a patch of land last year, the sources said.
The murder weapon and a motorcycle were seized from him, police added.
