New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been the theatre of drama and clashes over the last few weeks.
From the time AAP outvoted BJP to earn the right to control Delhi’s civic body, there hasn’t been a dull moment.
AAP also won the Mayor’s election, held earlier this week after several delays, but that didn’t help cool matters.
Election to MCD’s crucial 6-member standing committee on Friday was followed by ugly clashes in the house as Mayor Shelly Oberoi declared one vote cast to be invalid and ordered fresh election on Monday.
On Saturday, the Delhi High Court ruled that the Mayor violated regulations and stayed the fresh election.
Outside the court, too, the two political parties continued to attack and ridicule each other.
As BJP identified AAP’s Atishi as the ‘khalnayika’ (villain), Arvind Kejriwal-led party retaliated by calling BJP leaders like former Team India cricketer Gautam Gambhir ‘Ballot Chor Machaye Shor.’
AAP MLA Atishi was made the ‘villain’ as she was accused of orchestrating the ruckus during Friday’s elections for the standing committee in the MCD house.
The AAP then shared a poster titled title ‘Ballot Chor Machaye Shor’, featuring BJP MPs Gambhir, Manoj Tiwari, councillor Rekha Gupta and other leaders.
“The BJP people who are making so much noise. These are the ones who stole ballot papers and are killers of democracy,” AAP wrote in a tweet in Hindi.
