Shein App set to go off the market
New Delhi: A day after Shein, a fashion brand app and go-to shopping website primarily for women and girls, was listed among the Chinese cellular functions banned by the government, social media erupted with memes on Tuesday.
Shein was among the apps collectively termed as “engaged in activities which are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order”.
Eventually, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology invoked its power under section 69A of the Indian Information Technology Act, 2000, which specifies “Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public”, .
The move comes days amid the rising tension with China- after twenty Indian Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed in clashes with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh.
As Shein is set to go off the market, here’s how Twitteratis bid goodbye to their go-to app with memes.
