Santiniketan: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, no Friday, spoke on the Rohingya issue and said India should impress upon Myanmar to take them back.
Addressing the gathering at the newly-inaugurated Bangladesh Bhawan here in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi she said, “We have given them a place on humanitarian grounds. We want them to return to their country as early as possible. I request you to help us to interact with Myanmar so that they take Rohingyas back,” she said.
The Bangladesh Bhawan on the varsity campus will be a centre dedicated to the cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier, Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart along with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the convocation ceremony of Visva-Bharati University.
Prime Minister Modi spoke at length about the bilateral relations between the two countries, growing stronger.
“India and Bangladesh are two separate countries, bonded by cooperation and understanding. Be it culture or public policy, the people of the two countries get to learn a lot from each other,” the prime minister said.
“The connectivity routes which had been left abandoned since 1965 are being re-developed and a new chapter has been added in the Indo-Bangladesh bilateral connections,” he said.
