Bank Employee Arrested For ‘Embezzling’ Pension Funds

Balasore: Crime Branch sleuths arrested an employee of Bank Of India of Remuna branch in Balasore district on Friday on charges of misappropriating pension funds to the tune of Rs 1.32 crore.

The accused has been identified as Prabhat Das.

According to the sources, Prabhat was posted as a bank correspondent. During that period, he collected the ATM cards of dead persons and by projecting them as alive, he withdrew money from their account.

He had been doing this since 2014.

On being informed, the Crime Branch and Remuna Police jointly conducted simultaneous raids on Prabhat’s residence at Mandir Chhak here. They also searched his houses at Naraharipur and Gopinathpur.

The Crime Branch also went to the houses of the dead people for investigation.

Notably, some bank employees are also involved in this embezzlement and they are being interrogated.
