Bhubaneswar: Following the arrest of most-wanted criminal Madhav Rabi Das in Bihar on Monday, Odisha police has sought 15-day remand to interrogate him in connection with bank robbery cases pending against him in the state.
Das was allegedly involved in a number of bank dacoities, including six in Odisha. Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal police were on the lookout for him.
According to police sources, Madhav was the mastermind in the loot of Rs 1 crore in cash and gold ornaments from a branch of Andhra Bank in Angul district on April 6.
He had also looted cash to the tune of Rs 41 lakh from a branch of Indian Overseas Bank in Rourkela on June 19.
In 1990, he was involved in several Maoist violence. Later, he formed more than 10 gangs to commit bank robberies in different parts of the state and the country.
