Barpali: Normal life was affected at Barpali in Bargarh district on
Wednesday owing to a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by members of the local
bar association demanding sub-division status for the town.
Shops, markets, educational institutions, private and government
offices remained closed, while vehicles stayed off the road following
the strike.
“Sub-division status to Barpali town has been a long-standing demand of
the people of the locality. It is unfortunate that the district
administration does not pay any heed to the demand. This forced us to
observe the bandh,” an agitating lawyer said. “Members of different political parties,
civil society organisations, intellectuals and public extended their support to make the strike successful,” the lawyer added.
