Puri: As preparation for Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra is progressing at a fast pace in Odisha’s Puri, the under-construction chariot of Devi Subhadra suffered minor damage after a battery-run vehicle rammed into it on Tuesday.
Sources said one of the battery-operated cars plying in the pilgrim town to carry elderly and Divyang passengers to Shree Jagannath temple dashed against the axle of Devi Subhadra’s chariot, ‘Darpadalana’. Construction of three giant chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra for the upcoming Rath Yatra is underway at ‘Ratha Khala’, a special yard on Bada Danda, the grand avenue.
The incident took place when the car was returning from the shrine after dropping some passengers. While the chariot suffered very minor damage, no one was injured in the incident. The car was damaged under the impact of the collision.
Chariot construction is going on in full swing and the carpenters are busy preparing ‘Gargara’, ‘Chauda Nahaka’, ‘Chari Nahaka’, ‘Pancha Danda’ and other structures.
