Bay Of Bengal To Witness Another Cyclonic Storm By Dec 8; Check Impact & Name

Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area, which formed over south Andaman Sea and neighborhood on Monday, is likely to concentrate further and take shape of a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal around December 8, according India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.

“It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal by December 6 evening. Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards, intensify further gradually into a cyclonic storm and reach southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by December 8 morning,” the MeT office said in its morning bulletin.

The system will be named Cyclone Mandous, a name suggested by UAE, once it intensifies into a cyclonic storm.

Rain

>> Widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls is very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands from December 5-6.

>> With the low-pressure system moving towards southwest Bay of Bengal, enhanced rainfall activity is likely to commence over north-coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and South coast Andhra Pradesh at midnight of December 7.

>> The intensity of rainfall is likely to increase in most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and isolated heavy rainfall over south Andhra Pradesh on December 8.

Wind

>> Squally weather (speed 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph) is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea on December 5.

>> Squally winds (speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) likely over southeast Bay of Bengal on December 5-6; over Southwest & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal on December 6-7

>> Squally winds (50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) over southwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Sri Lanka coast on December 7 and wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over the same region on December 8 and likely reduce to 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph by December 9.

>> Squally wind (speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) is likely to commence along & off Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, south Andhra Pradesh coast and Gulf of Mannar from December 8 morning, becoming 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from December 8 evening for subsequent 12 hours and likely reduce to 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph by December 9.
