Dharamsala: India rubbed salt into England’s wounds with an innings-and-64-run win in the final Test to claim the series 4-1.
The comprehensive triumph in two-and-a-half days was even more special as India had suffered a shocking 28-run defeat in the first Test at Hyderabad despite grabbing a 190-run first-innings lead.
Thereafter, India thrashed England by 106 runs at Visakhapatnam, won by a record 434 runs at Rajkot, by 5 wickets at Ranchi and now the innings victory.
England’s pride and their trademark Bazball style lay in tatters at the colourful HPCA Stadium overlooking the snow-clad Himalayas here on Saturday afternoon as the visitors capitulated in the second innings too after an equally disappointing first innings.
After Jimmy Anderson picked his 700th Test wicket to bowl out India for 477, English batters cut a sorry figure against the spinners to be bowled out for 195 in 48.1 overs. In the first innings, they managed to last 57.4 overs in making 218 on a flat opening-day track.
Ravichandran Ashwin made his 100th Test special by grabbing 5/77 for a nine-wicket match haul.
First-innings hero and Man-of-the-Match Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah claimed 2 wickets each, and Ravindra Jadeja the other one.
