Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the world’s richest cricket board which rakes in the moolah for the sport globally.

Hence it came as no surprise when the Indian board decided to present its T20 World Cup-winning squad a whopping cash prize of Rs 125 crore.

“I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!” BCCI secretary announced through a post on X.

India looked to be headed for another disappointing defeat in a major ICC meet final as South Africa needed just 30 runs off 30 balls at one stage, with 6 wickets standing.

But Rohit Sharma’s never-say-die team, aided by some nervy cricket from South Africa, turned the final around in spectacular fashion to snatch a 7-run victory from the jaws of defeat.

Team India on Saturday received $2.45 million (Rs 20.42 crore approximately) along with bonuses from the International Cricket Council (ICC) — the highest-ever amount awarded in the 17-year history of T20 World Cup.
