BCCI Praises Team India Pacer For Staying Back In Australia Despite Father’s Death

Sydney: Team India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj came in for praise for deciding to stay back with the team in Australian despite his father’s death.

“May Mohammed Siraj have a lot of strength to overcome this loss.. lots of good wishes for his success in this trip.. tremendous character,” Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly tweeted.

Siraj’s father Mohammed Ghouse passed away on Friday at the age of 53. He was suffering from a lung ailment.

Siraj, who has played one ODI and three T20 Internationals so far, is part of the Indian Test squad currently quarantining in Australia.

He could not fly back to India for the funeral due to quarantine rules, but was given the option of returning home to be with his grieving family. However, he decided to stay back in Australia for national duty.

The 26-year-old pacer played for Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL-13, and bagged 11 wickets in nine matches.

India and Australia will play three ODIs, beginning on November 27, followed by three T20 Internationals and four Tests.
