Bhubaneswar: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revoked the two-year ban on Odisha senior men’s team player Sumit Sharma, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) said in a press release on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old Sumit was part of Odisha’s Ranji Trophy squad for the 2023-24 season and had travelled to Vadodara for the opening match in the first week of January.
However, in a major setback, he was slapped a two-year ban for producing multiple fake age certificates.
“Sumit Sharma, a player of Odisha Senior Men’s Team, has been disqualified by the BCCI to play in the BCCI Domestic Tournaments for 2 years as he has produced multiple age certificates. The certificates produced by him when he played at the junior level in the year 2015-16 do not match with the ones he produced for the current season,” OCA secretary Sanjay Behera said in January.
Now that his ban has been lifted prematurely, Sumit will be eligible to represent Odisha, if selected, from the upcoming season.
