Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Monday demolished illegal structures constructed on its land by some encroachers.
According to sources, the BDA came to know from reliable sources that some miscreants had encroached on its 68 acre of land at Shampur in Bhubaneswar. The BDA had procured the land from General Administration department of the state government earlier.
Following the information, the BDA deputed its officials to conduct on-the-spot verification. During its investigation, the officials found that the miscreants had not only encroached the land but also sold it to some innocent people. The buyers had also started construction works on the encroached land.
On Monday, the BDA’s enforcement team, lead by deputy commissioner (enforcement) Arun Nayak and police force carried out demolition of illegally constructed structures on its land at Shampur. After a portion of the land was cleared of encroachment, the locals staged a protest.
As the tension mounted due to the opposition by the locals, the BDA stopped the demolition drive. However, the team managed to demolish the foundation works in 23 places and 3 structures upto plinth level.
