Bhubaneswar: Ahead of Hockey Men’s World Cup in Odisha capital, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is planning to undertake extensive landscaping and plantation activities along 40-km of major arterial roads.
It will be floating a tender shortly.
According to official sources, the plantation activity will include flower beds, lawns, shrubs, hedge rows and trees along major road stretches including the road from Biju Patnaik statue near the airport up to KIIT Square, Sishu Bhawan Square to Ram Mandir Square, Raj Mahal Square to AG Square, AG Square to Acharya Vihar Square, Airport Square to Sishu Bhawan Square, Udyan Marg, Raj Bhawan Square to Siripur Square, Acharya Vihar Square to Kalinga Hospital Square, Acharya Vihar to Baramunda Bus Stand, Ekamra Chhak to Siripur Square and Ekamra Chhak to Palashpalli Square.
Similarly, the 20 plus traffic junctions, where landscaping is being planned, include Airport Circle (Biju Patnaik statue island), Ekamra Chhak traffic islands, AG Square and Ambedkar statue island, Rajv Bhawan Square and Madhusudan Das statue island.
Besides, there will be boxes and hanging planters along with tree guards and railings. The project proponent will be encouraged to use further innovations while developing its proposal and suggest alternatives that are beneficial.
The project envisages planting, watering and pruning along with maintenance of landscape for four years. Dedicated gardening staff in adequate numbers would be engaged along all stretches for proper upkeep and maintenance, the sources said.
Special focus will be on hardy and non-browsing species of trees and shrubs, which are common deterrent for cattle, the sources added.
