Bhubaneswar: An enforcement team of BDA faced heavy stone-pelting during eviction drive in a state government land in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The enforcement team comprising officers and staff of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) arrived at a 4-acre piece of land at Shree Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police station in the city in the after to carry out eviction drive without police force.
As the team started demolishing the encroached structures on the plot, the locals staged a strong protest. As they were engaged in argument with the officials, tension prevailed in the area. Some encroachers allegedly pelted stones at the BDA officials.
Though nobody was injured in the stone-pelting, an excavator of the BDA was damaged. On being informed, a team from Chandrasekharpur police station rushed to the spot and dispersed the angry mob.
The enforcement team finally freed the area of the illegal structures. During the eviction drive, 2 RCC houses, 12 ACC shed houses, 5 latrines, 2 shops, about 1000 ft of boundary wall and about 500 ft of bamboo fence were demolished.
