Bhubaneswar: A wall is proposed to be built around the Bhubaneswar New City area at a cost of Rs seven crore. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has floated a tender for the purpose.
As per reports, the greenfield township is set to come up in Malipada, Gothapatna and Dasapur on the city outskirts.
“We have submitted the proposal of the new city to the ministry of housing and urban affairs based on a challenge thrown by it. The prize money of the challenge was Rs 1,000 crore on which the project will be executed,” BDA engineer member Kaushik Dhal was quoted by TOI as saying.
BDA has earmarked 332 hectares of land for the project of which nearly 95 per cent belongs to the government.
BDA had conducted an environment assessment of the project area earlier this year and had demarcated roads and lanes. It has been decided to construct the boundary wall to protect the site.
BDA will spend Rs seven crore on the wall. The agency selected will get six months to complete the work. The tender process is expected to be complete by the end of this month.
While BDA is the nodal agency for executing the project, it will have stakeholders including Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation, Odisha State Housing Board, Water Corporation of Odisha, energy and revenue departments.
BDA has said the new city will be inclusive, vibrant and resilient, and boost multi-pronged economic development.
Focusing on regional demand and aspirations, the new city will cater to the needs such as industry, knowledge-based industries, service industries and hospitality sector. The new city is expected to create more than one lakh direct and indirect job opportunities.
