Cuttack: Good governance calls for sensitive administration and out of the box solutions to the problems of locals.
The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Narasinghpur in Cuttack district did exactly that on the Bharat Bandh day. The BDO, Pradip Kumar Sahu set out on his cycle for Kanpur village, to provide assistance to a widow beneficiary.
As per sources, one Dinesh Maharana of the panchayat had died of kidney failure about 10 days back and his wife Chhabirani is also suffering from brain tumour.
She had approached the local administration seeking support for her and two minor daughters citing her illness and the plight of her children after her.
Considering the emergency of the situation and the need to provide financial aid to the bereaved family, Sahu set on a 20-km cycle journey from his panchayat office to the beneficiary’s village, Kanpur. While the Bharat Bandh had affected vehicular communication, the BDO found a way out to perform his duty within the bandh guidelines.
On reaching the house of Chhabirani, he along with the local Sarpanch Manmohan Das and other local officials provided Rs 2,000 cash, 50 kg rice besides clothes and sweets for children. Sahu said various schemes have been set up by the government for those who have no one and we are the medium to ensure that the benefits reach the people under any circumstances. The Sarpanch said they provided benefits under the Harishchandra Sahayata Yojana.
He further assured that the family will be listed and provided all the benefits under the Annapurna Scheme and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, so that the girl children can have a bright future.
