Phulbani: The son of a block development officer (BDO) was penalised for underage driving in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
As per reports, the personnel of Kandhamal Sadar police station and officials of the Transport department were carrying out checking as part of the drive against underage driving at Bisipada Chhak in the town when the minor boy was caught driving a bike with his friends.
On enquiring about the minor boy’s name and address, the officials came to know that he was the son of Arjun Pradhan, Kotgad BDO in the district. On being informed about his son, Pradhan arrived at the spot. He paid the penalty for his son and took him home.
Speaking to the media, Transport Officer Sisir Kumar Sahu said the minor boy was held for underage driving and his two-wheeler has been seized.
It may be noted that in a crackdown against underage driving, the State Road Transport Authority (STA) launched a special drive for taking strict action against violators from March 28. During the drive, which would continue till first week of April, penalty upto Rs 25,000 would be imposed, the STA had warned.
