Be Careful In Online Relationships: Madras HC Tells Youngsters

Chennai: On Tuesday, the Madras High Court issued a “public appeal” and urged youngsters as well as their fam

ilies to beware of entering into relationships with people who they had met online.

The court said they were issuing the appeal or advisory in the interest of both those disproportionately targeted and society more broadly. This was issues considering the rise in technology, according to reports.

While hearing a case, the court held that consent obtained through deception stands vitiated. It underlined the distinction between “consensual romantic relationships” and “relationships induced by deception”.

The court dismissed the appeal made by a convict in sexual assault case while noting that investigators had recovered about 355 obscene videos and over 1,000 photographs from the convict’s laptop, implicating dozens of victims.
