Bhubaneswar: A day after the arrest of police inspector Tapan Nakah, the woman home guard, who had accused him of sexually exploiting her on false pretext of marriage, on Thursday alleged that she was being pressured to withdraw the case.
The 28-year-old victim claimed that a senior police officer threatened her with dismissal from job and also to harm her family. “A constable approached me last Saturday and offered Rs 25-27 lakh to not report the matter. I was threatened with dire consequences. The constable told me that I would lose my job if I decide to press charges. However, they have not been brought under the purview of investigation despite the fact that I had mentioned their names in the FIR,” she told a local news channel.
She further alleged that two unidentified persons visited her house last night and threatened her family. “They told my father that I could be abducted, compromised or even killed,” she claimed.
Meanwhile, the inspector, charged under Sections 68 and 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for sexual exploitation by a person in authority and obtaining sexual intercourse through deceitful means, has been remanded to judicial custody.
Before his arrest, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania had also ordered his immediate suspension ‘in the interest of public service and to ensure fairness in inquiry’ and initiated a probe into the allegations.
