Beirut Explosion: Odisha Govt Seeks Details Of Explosive Materials From Factories

Bhubaneswar: A week after an explosion ripped apart a warehouse in Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon, the Odisha government has sought details of flammable and explosive materials from the factories.

The Directorate of Factories and Boilers has asked the ‘occupiers of all factories’ to furnish a list and quantity of flammable and explosive materials used, handled and stocked in their facilities.

Stating that the massive explosion in the warehouse of the port city in Lebanon had claimed 70 lives and injured many on August 4, the director directed the factories to take all possible safety measures to prevent any untoward incident in future.

Besides, the facilities have been asked to furnish a report on their preparedness to deal with any such exigency in future.

According to media reports, the Beirut explosion was caused by 2,700 tonnes of amminium nitrate stored for six years in the warehouse.
