Bengaluru: A 25-year-old man from West Bengal has been detained by the police in Bengaluru for his alleged attempts to get in touch with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and discussing plans to carry out strikes against India and Pakistan with a member of the outfit.
The man has been identified as Asafool Mallik, a native of Noapara in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, as per a NDTV report.
In Bengaluru, Mallik was living near APC Circle in Jigani and working as a security guard at Tata Advanced Limited in the Jigani Industrial Area since December 2025.
They received information about his activities while patrolling the Bommasandra Industrial Area, the police said. During questioning, Mallik allegedy told officers that he was angry over what he believed were atrocities by the Pakistani military against Muslims in Pakistan, including alleged attacks on mosques and civilians.
He also expressed anger over Pakistan’s position on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Mallik was also allegedly being encouraged to retaliate if Muslims faced difficulties in India.
He established contact through Facebook with a person identified as Imran Haider from Afghanistan, who is suspected of being associated with the TTP, the police said.
Mallik allegedly sought Haider’s help to travel to Afghanistan and also applied for a visa. H, however, dropped the plan because of financial constraints and his family responsibilities, as reported by News18.
Authorities claimed that they examined his mobile phone and recovered chats with Haider, along with records of several voice calls and audio conversations.
The chats, recordings and other material recovered from the phone are now being examined to determine the extent of Mallik’s alleged association with Haider and the TTP.
An investigation is also underway to find out if the alleged conversations involved any concrete plans for attacks in India.
