Bengal Tiger Settling Down In Satkosia Enclosure

Angul: The three-year-old male Royal Bengal tiger brought from the Kanha National Park has shown all signs of settling down in the enclosure near Raigoda inside the Tiger Reserve zone of the Satkosia sanctuary.

As informed by Sudarshan Panda, additional principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF) and field director of Satkosia, a wild boar, released into the enclosure on Thursday, was killed and eaten by the tiger at around 2.30 am on Friday. After devouring half the carcass, it drank water from an artificial pool constructed by the Forest department and refreshed with a bath inside the pool. The big cat ate the leftover after three hours.

He further said the movement of the tiger inside the core area would be monitored for one year.

Chief Wildlife Warden, Odisha, Sandip Tripathy said that to monitor the movement of the tiger inside the enclosure, it is fitted with both GPS and a satellite tracker. The customized radio collar will help track the cat in the dense forest after it is released from the enclosure.

He also said after the tiger is accustomed to the Satkosia environment, five more tigers would be brought from the Kanha National Park and Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh to increase their population in the sanctuary.
