Athmallik: Tension ran high in Athmallik area of Angul district after the Royal Bengal tigress Sundari of the Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary killed five cattle at Bipradiha village of Maimura panchayat near Athmallik Forest Range border on Friday afternoon.
Following the incident, the irate women of the village ransacked Dhandatopa Forest Beat House. To ward off any untoward incident, the local police and the Forest officials have rushed to the village to take stock of the situation, reports said.
Informing the media on Saturday, Sarpanch of Maimura Panchayat, Satyananda Rout said the tigress entered the village in the afternoon and killed four calves and an ox while they were grazing in the field on the outskirts of the village.
“We have received information about the incident. But it is yet to be confirmed if the tigress has killed the cattle,” Athmallik DFO Samyak Samantray told mediapesons here.
The tigress had earlier killed a calf of this village after crossing the overflowing Chanagodi Nullah on September 2.
The Bengal tigress, which was brought from the Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh and released into the wild of Satkosia on August 18, had alleged killed a woman of Hatibari village on September 12 following which the irate villagers led by the members of the Khyatigrasta Praja Sangh burnt the Forest Beat House at Hatibari and the Range office in Tikarpada demanding compensation to the family of the deceased and shifting of the tigress to Bandhavgarh.
